City Walk SA

Has anyone kept up with City Walk? Any ideas of a trial neighborhood for SA/anyone willing to go in on trying it out here? I think southtown would probably be the most popular option but I'm thinking near east side/dignowity hill to highlight recent developments there.

MyCommunity MyHome

Aging in Place. San Antonio is home to many seniors and retirees and over 50% of them still own their own home. But for many of them, their children are grown and moved away or they have lost their partners and now they are alone in a big house. I want to provide a home sharing program in Bexar County where we match Home Providers with potential Home Renters which would be more affordable than regular renting or assisted ...more »

Require Drivers to Turn On Headlights When Raining

This may be better dealt with at the state level, but I believe all drivers should turn on their headlights when it is raining outside. Rainy conditions can be dangerous and visibility is often poor. More importantly, your headlights help other drivers see you better. A law may not be necessary but education from the city or state would certainly encourage drivers to turn the headlights on and make the roads safer for ...more »

Mayoral Campaign

Any thoughts on the race? Adkisson seems like a long shot. Taylor, Van De Putte, and Villarreal - in my opinion - are the candidates with a best shot. I'm voting Villarreal. Haven't really seen anything form Taylor as interim-mayor to make me believe in her. She was pretty ineffective as a council member and hasn't actually done much as interim-mayor. I don't like Van De Putte deciding to jump into the campaign after ...more »

Increase access to COSA's Outdoor Pools / Place-make with Pools

The City of San Antonio has some great outdoor pools. . . that are inaccessible too many hours of the day, days of the week, and weeks of the year, discouraging outdoor swimming and related activities at our parks and in surrounding areas. It is embarrassing to note that cities including Austin, Miami and even Cleveland and Pittsburgh offer better access to public outdoor pools, typically from sun-up to well after sun-down, ...more »

Airport and Mall Shuttle Bus

It would be great, cut down on traffic, and bring money back into San Antonio from outlying areas, if there was a shuttle service from Fair Oaks area or even Boerne, into the Rim/Sea World, North Star or Central Park Mall, into the airport. It would also be terrific to have a shuttle bus that stopped at the Rim or Fair Oaks/Boerne area and made a few trips into downtown on the weekends. Would provide easy access to the ...more »

VIA Metropolitan Transit: #ElectricBuses

Media reports suggest that San Antonio's VIA Metropolitan Transit (VIA) is considering upgrading its 40-foot bus fleet to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles -- to be fueled by CPS Energy natural gas infrastructure, including a proposed new pipeline from the Eagle Ford. See http://www.bizjournals.com/sanantonio/blog/eagle-ford-shale-insight/2015/10/via-transitto-take-first-step-in-switching-out.html Natural gas pipelines ...more »

Lower voting age to 16 for municipal elections

San Antonio - like the state of Texas - has a persistent and dire low voter turnout problem.. Specifically, a low youth voter turnout problem (most voters in San Antonio are over 50). Roughly 24% of all San Antonio residents are under 18 years old. Voter turnout for municipal elections in San Antonio has remained below 18% since 1997 - dropping to 7% in 2011. To help address low overall and youth voter turnout and encourage ...more »

VIA Metropolitan Transit: #SimplifyFares.

VIA Metropolitan Transit (VIA) plans to change fares in 2016, including reducing the cost of a full fare day pass from $4 to $2.75 ($1.35 discounted) but raising the cost of other fares and passes. See: http://www.viainfo.net/Communication/ViewArticle.aspx?ArticleId=2589 Unlike increasing fares, reducing VIA fares is not governed by any rules. VIA picking $2.75 ($1.35 discounted) for a day pass is an odd choice for ...more »

Probate court

1 out of 5 San Antonio citizens are 60 and over. I would like to see more public meetings on protecting elders and their families from unneeded guardianships. There are new laws passed by the state last session. Many times hospitals, nursing homes and retirement community‚Äôs directors are by passing family and referring people to court most often to cover their legal behinds. They should not be allowed to that. How ...more »
