This may be better dealt with at the state level, but I believe all drivers should turn on their headlights when it is raining outside. Rainy conditions can be dangerous and visibility is often poor. More importantly, your headlights help other drivers see you better. A law may not be necessary but education from the city or state would certainly encourage drivers to turn the headlights on and make the roads safer for ...more »
Travis Park serves as a major transfer point for VIA and people standing scanning the streets for arriving buses (as the park behind them is mainly empty) is a fairly common sight here. The costs of 'real-time' bus tracking and reporting has dropped significantly ($50 smart phones can do it). The City should work with VIA (and sponsors?) to install real-time electronic bus arrival signs at stops at Travis Park (PRIMO ...more »
Whenever there is an event at the Alamodome -- which is frequently -- traffic barricades are put up that block the intersections at Cesar Chavez and Labor Street, Indianola Street, and the alley at Hemisview Apartments. Additionally, "no parking" signs are plastered along every side street in the area. Residents in this neighborhood have to detour all the way around these barricades, making access to highways 281 and ...more »
We need this in San Antonio...and I wouldn't cost the city anything http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-and-corporation-national-and-community-service-expand-their-partnership Justice Department and the Corporation for National and Community Service Expand Their Partnership to Provide Legal Aid to Victims of Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation Today, the Department of Justice, through its Elder Justice ...more »
VIA Metropolitan Transit (VIA) plans to change fares in 2016, including reducing the cost of a full fare day pass from $4 to $2.75 ($1.35 discounted) but raising the cost of other fares and passes. See: http://www.viainfo.net/Communication/ViewArticle.aspx?ArticleId=2589 Unlike increasing fares, reducing VIA fares is not governed by any rules. VIA picking $2.75 ($1.35 discounted) for a day pass is an odd choice for ...more »
Media reports suggest that San Antonio's VIA Metropolitan Transit (VIA) is considering upgrading its 40-foot bus fleet to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles -- to be fueled by CPS Energy natural gas infrastructure, including a proposed new pipeline from the Eagle Ford. Aging in Place. San Antonio is home to many seniors and retirees and over 50% of them still own their own home. But for many of them, their children are grown and moved away or they have lost their partners and now they are alone in a big house. I want to provide a home sharing program in Bexar County where we match Home Providers with potential Home Renters which would be more affordable than regular renting or assisted ...more »
Berlin has a wooden kiosk in one of their parks with picnic tables around it. Each month a different German winery sells their wines by the glass or the bottle at promotional prices (maybe $2-3 for a glass and $8-12 for a bottle depending on quality). Residents enjoy sitting in the park and visiting with their friends while having some wine; they are also free to bring their own picnic foods to make it a meal. It's ...more »
It would be great, cut down on traffic, and bring money back into San Antonio from outlying areas, if there was a shuttle service from Fair Oaks area or even Boerne, into the Rim/Sea World, North Star or Central Park Mall, into the airport. It would also be terrific to have a shuttle bus that stopped at the Rim or Fair Oaks/Boerne area and made a few trips into downtown on the weekends. Would provide easy access to the ...more »
I wish there were some technologically fast way--e-mail, tweet, FB post--to report a fix for traffic screw-ups _that has recourse_--that is, returned correspondence acknowledging receipt with a personalized result about the response ("We investigated your claim, and have decided . . ." or "The person you need to contact about that is . . .") I care about good traffic flow and don't want accidents, but the many people ...more »
1 out of 5 San Antonio citizens are 60 and over. I would like to see more public meetings on protecting elders and their families from unneeded guardianships. There are new laws passed by the state last session. Many times hospitals, nursing homes and retirement community’s directors are by passing family and referring people to court most often to cover their legal behinds. They should not be allowed to that. How ...more »
Downtown Bus Stops are used as a Hangout for Homeless and transient People. Terrible presence and Scary to walk by. Harassed by beggars every blocks. Not good for Locals and Tourists.
Move Bus stops, especially Big transfer points to outside downtown ASAP.
With projected growth a 2nd airport should be considered. Austin has the iH35 covered, current airport has the Northside, so the obvious location site should be South San Antonio.
The former Kelly AFB & surrounding area would be a good area flat needs business development and job growth.
We can connect these areas with all of the airports mentioned thru the use of high speed rail.
